This Man Might Be The First Head Transplant Recipient – This Is Crazy!
With technology processing as fast as it is, we are now living in the future. The things we used to see on movies and the Sci-Fi Channel are too far off from what they portrayed a couple decades ago.
Now meet Valery Spiridonov, the recipient of the very first head transplant! “When I realized that I could participate in something really big and important, I had no doubt left in my mind and started to work in this direction,” Spiridonov explained.
This 30-year-old man has volunteered to be the lab rat in a really crazy science experiment involving a head transplant, yes you heard that right! Spiridonov suffers from a terminal illness called Werdnig-Hoffmann disease, and actually volunteered for the operation.
Sergio Canavero is going to be the doctor that will perform this unusual operation. This Italian neurosurgeon claims it will take about 36 hours in all.
The date of the surgery is set for December 2017, to give them plenty of time to ensure they are 99% sure of success. After all, taking off Spiridonov’s head and sticking it on to a new body isn’t exactly is going to be an easy task.
“The only thing I feel is the sense of pleasant impatience, like I have been preparing for something important all my life and it’s starting to happen,” said Spiridonov.
You can hear all about the surgery in the video below – this will probably be the craziest thing you have heard or seen in a long time!
