Mom Gives Daughter Abortion Pills, Gets Sent To Prison.
A mother in Pennsylvania may have thought she was doing her daughter a favor, when in fact she was breaking state law.
The woman has been sentenced for up to 18 months in prison after obtaining so-called “abortion pills” and giving them to her teenage daughter so she wouldn’t have a baby.
39-year-old Jennifer Ann Whalen of Washingtonville is a single mother who works as a nursing home aide. Just because he working title has nursing in it doesn’t mean that she was qualified to give her daughter those pills.
Knowing that she pleaded guilty in August to obtaining said pills from an online site in Europe for her 16-year-old daughter who did not was to have the child.
However, in the state of Pennsylvania it is required that only licensed physicians perform abortions.
Whalen was sentenced on Friday to serve minimum 12 months to a maximum of 18 months in prison as well as $1,000 fine and 40 hours of community service.
Whalen’s excuse was that there was no local clinic available to perform an abortion and her daughter did not have health insurance to go have the procedure done in a hospital.
Even if there was no “local” clinic, the closest one was only 74 miles away in Harrisburg and I’m pretty sure that’s only about an hour drive or so.
The daughter had experienced severe cramping and bleeding after taking the pills and Whalen had to take her to a hospital for treatment, when it was found out what she had taken.
