It’s an honorable thing to be a surrogate mother and carry someone else’s child for them to give them the gift of life.
So when this couple hired single mother Crystal Kelley to be their surrogate mother, she became pregnant with a little girl and it seemed like good news.
But halfway through Crystal’s pregnancy, the ultrasound revealed that the baby would be born with a number of heart defects and neurological issues. Crystal did not want to move forward with the abortion. She said she knew the baby had “a fighting spirit” and she wanted to fight for her.
But the couple was adamant about Crystal having the abortion. That’s when Crystal decided to flee to Michigan, Where the law would give her parental rights as the child’s birth mother. “They said that they didn’t want to bring a baby into the world only for that child to suffer. They said I should try to be ‘Godlike’, and have mercy on the child,” she said.
Crystal had the baby and she was born with the heart defects as predicted any cleft palate. However, Crystal was able to find her to loving adoptive parents. The child will undergo several surgeries, but at least she will know the bond of two parents who choose to love her.
