Djuna M. Tansmore, 48, was arrested on Thursday after security footage caught her attempting to exit the store with $86.58 worth of laundry detergent and Miracle Whip. The loss prevention officer approached Tansmore when security informed him she was stealing. When he did so she tried to undo the safety strap that was holding her niece in the cart. She didn’t undo the straps all the way according to the Rostraver Tounship Police Chief Greg Resetar. “The straps weren’t released and it sort of tipped the cart, and she sort of was trying to shake it, moving around, trying to dislodge the baby from the mechanism,” Resetar said.
In video that was obtained by the station, it can be seen that the baby in the seat was being yanked back and forth. The cart was nearly tipping as well and then was dragged behind the baby seat. Then when it all just became too much the woman left the baby behind and fled the scene. She was arrested a short time after the incident near her home which is in Monesse, Pennsylvania. She is now facing charges of retail theft, recklessly endangering another person, use/possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child. The child was eventually real eased at the store to her mother.
