A 21-year-old British viral marketer James Shamsi wants to change the world – one Kardashian Klick at a time.
Our newsfeeds are constantly inundated with information about the Kardashians – whose Khloe dating, Kylie’s lips transformation, Kim’s pregnancy, everything – so, back in May, Shamsi released a browser extension called KardBlock to eradicate any mention of the famous family from the places we consume news.
“Basically, what was happening was that there were Kardashian’s everywhere, and I wanted to do something about that,” he explained to The Daily Beast. “But for me, when I follow pages, I am not doing it to get a constant stream of updates on the Kardashian. I am interested in deeper issues. But every platform seems interested in Kardashian news to the point that everything else gets crushed.”
He said that his plans are much bigger than just the Kardashian: “We are looking to disrupt the entire digital advertising space. We want to replace all advertising with donation links an important news widgets,” he said.
However, in the few months it’s been out, the app has gotten terrible ratings. Comment after comment reads “doesn’t work,” and it only has 2300 users. What’s up with that? Instead, people looking to rid their lives of the Kraze – 13,123 users to be exact – are turning to chiralsoftware’s browser extension ‘Kardashian Filter’.
